Forward Modelling in the Geosciences

چکیده
We describe how we use models of mantle dynamics to understand and test the controls and effects of plate tectonics, such as ocean basin volume, magma production and the formation of natural resources. Numerical modeling and geological ground-truthing were incorporated to test the hypothesis that vertical motion of the Australian continental plate, as observed from sediments deposited during a marine incursion, was linked to the effects of negative buoyancy due to the dynamics of a sinking subducted slab along the eastern margin of Australia. Different models with varying parameters and boundary conditions were developed and then compared with geological observations to develop a best-fit numerical model.

Calculation of One-dimensional Forward Modelling of Helicopter-borne Electromagnetic Data and a Sensitivity Matrix Using Fast Hankel Transforms
The helicopter-borne electromagnetic (HEM) frequency-domain exploration method is an airborne electromagnetic (AEM) technique that is widely used for vast and rough areas for resistivity imaging. The vast amount of digitized data flowing from the HEM method requires an efficient and accurate inversion algorithm. Generally, the inverse modelling of HEM data in the first step requires a precise a...
متن کاملArtificial intelligence-based approaches for multi-station modelling of dissolve oxygen in river
ABSTRACT: In this study, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system, and feed forward neural network as two artificial intelligence-based models along with conventional multiple linear regression model were used to predict the multi-station modelling of dissolve oxygen concentration at the downstream of Mathura City in India. The data used are dissolved oxygen, pH, biological oxygen demand and water...
متن کاملMonthly runoff forecasting by means of artificial neural networks (ANNs)
Over the last decade or so, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools formodelling hydrological processes such as rainfall runoff processes. However, the employment of a single model doesnot seem to be an appropriate approach for modelling such a complex, nonlinear, and discontinuous process thatvaries in space and time. For this reason, this study aims at de...
متن کاملProposing New Methods to Enhance the Low-Resolution Simulated GPR Responses in the Frequency and Wavelet Domains
To date, a number of numerical methods, including the popular Finite-Difference Time Domain (FDTD) technique, have been proposed to simulate Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) responses. Despite having a number of advantages, the finite-difference method also has pitfalls such as being very time consuming in simulating the most common case of media with high dielectric permittivity, causing the for...
متن کاملA Robust Reliable Forward-reverse Supply Chain Network Design Model under Parameter and Disruption Uncertainties
Social responsibility is a key factor that could result in success and achieving great benefits for supply chains. Responsiveness and reliability are important social responsibility measures for consumers and all stakeholders that strategists and company managers should be concerned about them in long-term planning horizon. Although, presence of uncertainties as an intrinsic part of supply chai...
متن کاملDelivery Massager: A tool for propagating seismic inversion information into reservoir models
We introduce a new open-source program for transforming inversion data from the open-source Delivery seismic inversion software to industry-standard cornerpoint grid formats suitable for reservoir modelling and flow simulations. The seismic inversion data produced by Delivery is an array of trace-local stochastic samples from a Bayesian posterior distribution of reservoir layer parameters, whic...
